Call for Submissions 2023

We invite authors of all accepted abstracts to Digital Humanities Benelux 2023 to submit a full article based on their abstracts to the DH Benelux Journal. This Open Access journal offers a platform for authors to publish work that was presented at DH Benelux conferences, given that they are sufficiently reworked to include a research hypothesis and results.

Therefore, we would now like to invite all authors of abstracts that have been accepted for DH Benelux 2023 to submit a full-length version of their DH Benelux presentation as an article for the journal’s third issue: DH Benelux 2023. This year, the issue’s central theme is “Crossing borders: digital humanities research across languages and modalities”. Of particular interest are contributions that consider multilingualism and/or integrated processing of sources in different forms as images, maps, sounds texts and datasets. In line with this year’s conference theme, we particularly encourage authors to discuss their work in this context.

Articles can range from 4000-8000 words (including footnotes, but excluding references).

The issue will be guest-edited by Iason Jongepier, Isabelle Gribomont and Suzan Verberne.

Timeline:
Deadline for submission of extended abstracts: 25 September 2023
Deadline for submission of full articles: 2 October 2023, 23:59 CEST
First review period: October 2023 – December 2023
Notification of acceptance: 15 December 2023
First revision deadline: 1 February 2024
Second review period: February-March 2024
Second revision deadline: 1 April 2024
Final manuscript deadline: 1 May 2024
Journal articles online: 1 June 2024

Submissions:
Extended abstracts should include a short description of how the full article extends the accepted conference abstract, as well as the names and contact details of three potential reviewers with relevant expertise. These extended abstracts will not be reviewed but serve as a pre-submission registration to give us an idea of how many submissions to expect as well as give us time to approach reviewers. Extended abstracts are required: without an extended abstract, you cannot submit a full article.

Initial submissions of the extended abstract and full articles should be in PDF. Final versions of accepted articles must be submitted in LaTeX (see http://journal.dhbenelux.org/submission/ for submission details). Submissions should be sent to journal-2023@dhbenelux.org
